Slave shutdown

Slave shutdown by itself.
First time it happens, or maybe it already happened before but we’ve never noticed it cause we let task scheduler run all the time(it enables automatically deadline slave each 5 min)
I’ve attached the log files for the slave and monitor.

Which log is from the session that the slave shut down? The most recent slave log (last modified 13/12/2012 6:26 PM) shows that the slave is still running, while the one before that (last modified 13/12/2012 6:22 PM) shows that the slave was shut down, but that it was due to someone closing it manually from the UI. If the most recent slave log was from when the slave shut down, that means it crashed.

If you can let me know which log I should be looking at, that would help!

Thanks!

Correct the last log was created after it crashed, so i think the one before that would have the information about the crashing slave.

Thanks for confirming the log. That second last log indicates that the slave was closed directly from the user interface. It wasn’t a remote command that shut it down because it doesn’t show it receiving a command from another source. So this rules out the Monitor, Launcher, or a “deadlineslave -shutdown” command.

This may be a stupid question, but it is possible the slave was accidentally shutdown manually from the UI? Maybe an accidental “close” from the task bar, or an Alt+F4?

No i don’t think so, cause we use this PC only for render, we access it only with the remote desktop, and no one has touched it since.

Okay, cool. How about we leave it for now and wait to see if it happens again? If it does, send us the corresponding log and we’ll take another look. If it becomes a problem, perhaps we’ll need to add more detailed messages to indicate what caused the slave to want to shut down.

Does it create a new log only when the slave shutdown, or every now and then?
Cause it creased 2 new log files while it was rendering at night.
Could it create those log file if the network goes off and on?

The slave will start a new log in two cases:

  1. When the slave starts up.
  2. When the day changes while the slave is running (so a new log is started at midnight).

The logs are saved locally, and are unaffected by network access.

Cheers,
