IMPORTANT: Deadline 6.2 Licensing and Compatibility

Licensing

Deadline 6.2 will allow 2 slaves to run in “License-Free Mode”. In order to run the beta Deadline software on more than 2 slaves, you will need a floating FlexLM license for the version of Deadline you are running. Licenses are backward compatible, so if you have a 6.2 license, you can still run Deadline 6.1 and earlier. However, if you only have a 6.1 license or earlier, you will need to request a new license to run Deadline 6.2.

To request a new beta license, send the following information to sales (at) thinkboxsoftware (dot) com:

  1. Include “Requesting Deadline 6.2 Beta license.” in both the message subject and message body.
  2. The FlexLM server machine name.
  3. Physical Ethernet address (NIC address) of the FlexLM server computer.
  4. The number of licenses you require.

Note that only the Deadline Slave application requires a license (the license is per machine, not per CPU). Licenses are not required for monitoring or submitting jobs to the queue. Please allow two business days to receive your license file.

Compatibility

Important Note For OSX Users running 6.0: Due to a bug in the public 6.0 Client Installer for OSX, the auto-update system for minor upgrades will not work properly. In order to upgrade from 6.0 to 6.2, you will need to run the 6.2 Client Installer on your OSX machines. Note that this only affects machines with 6.0 installed. If you have 6.1 installed, the auto-upgrade system will work just fine.

Because Deadline 6.2 is a minor upgrade, you will be able to use Deadline’s automatic upgrading feature if you are already running 6.0 or 6.1 (unless you are running 6.0 on OSX, see Important Note above):

If you are running Deadline 5.2 or earlier, you will need to do a full reinstall:
