Sometimes when starting max in workstation mode, it just hangs up, and will never actually start:

The same machine, with the same job, will be able to start max randomly though…
The low ram usage tells me its hanging on something really early on
Hmmm, I feel like I’ve heard of this before, but for the life of me I can’t find anything about it.
It’s probably something with Lightning that’s failing silently, for some reason. I have no idea why it would only do so in Workstation mode, though… Does it still do it if you have silent mode turned off? Or does anything show up on the Slave at all at least, with silent mode off?
Should we just turn silent mode off globally, and see what happens? Should everything still function?
Silent Mode is only applicable to jobs running in Workstation Mode, it mostly just suppresses the UI; jobs should still function the same with or without it. It might be safer to just experiment on a select few Jobs though, just in case. I’m mostly curious to see if there is anything coming up in Max (popups or otherwise) that’s preventing Lightning from getting loaded, which would be more apparent with Silent mode turned off.
