3dsmax2012 STATE SETS?

The new advantage pack was released and has this StateSet BS.
Just wanted to ask if there is going to be any support for it with deadline?
IF so when might that be available?

Right now you can setup the states and submit them one at a time to deadline which works, not ideal.
Also, statesets don’t work well with Vray & Render Elements so at the moment its not production ready at all.

I’m sure deadline will be working with statesets before Autodesk fixes the current problems with it.

We need a render pass system “BOBO”

We plan to support State Sets in Deadline 5.1.
I have some prototype submission code, but we have to integrate it and test it in the remaining time before release.

Scene States version #2
Hopefully, this time round, Autodesk have got it right and allow ‘out of the box’ scene state management fluidly and then Deadline will be able to utilise it

Bobo - Are you going with “Master Job, submits secondary jobs via 3dsMax workstation mode” or the traditional, looping submission, submitting the Max scene over and over for each pass? Or is there a different way?!

Since the State Sets are part of the scene, the optimal solution would be the submit the SAME scene file to multiple jobs and restore the state set on the slave.
But I haven’t tested this yet, so it might not work
If the scene file is saved to a network path and not submitted to the Repository, it could be copied just once for 10 passes, which would speed up the submission a lot.

Cool. Sounds good. I need to have a play myself with how these sets work with render elements for a multi-channel EXR through the relatively new OpenEXR interface, for example. I believe VRay is currently un-supported with state sets, but myself included, this is bound to be a popular feature request for Deadline to support in the future. Will we ever need separate Deadline/SMTD settings per state set/render pass? Am I turning this into Voodoo v2?
