Hi folks,
3:23 am here and of course all the XSI folks have gone home so max boy is trying to solve render errors from XSI passes. We’ve got a few nodes that seem to error on everything and some that are reliable so I’ve cut down the nodes to the seemingly useful ones. There seems to be some fairly common render errors thrown which are a tad cryptic - nothing like missing paths etc. Any chance of any light being shed on them? We’re using XSI 6.5 and 6.01 on the nodes - a few of them seem to render 6.5 scenes on 6.01 via compatibility mode.
Here’s some common errors:

Any thoughts on what might be the issue? In this it’s a bit of bad timing (not that there’s ever good timing in post) since some of the folks didn’t fully test their scenes through deadline before putting in a lot of render passes per setup - If only they used max i’d have it all working
Hi John,
You’re right - those error messages don’t provide any insight on what
the problem might be. Compatibility between different versions of XSI
could be the culprit, but it’s hard to say for sure. One thing you could
try is to open up a scene on one of the “bad” slaves and render normally
though XSI. If an error still occurs, maybe XSI can provide more
information than XSIBATCH is returning.
Cheers,
- Ryan

Turns out the rather cryptic renderpasses 2008 error was that the scene file didn’t have a tick next to the file output name so it was setting it up, rendering it and then not saving the file - the not saving parts seems to be translated into a rather unhelpful message that makes it look like something worse. Maybe that might be part of the future XSI submission script to check for a tick box in the different passes to see if they’re set to output?
I’ll go through the files again soon, we’re back to bat files for the minute due to time constraints but they’ll be a good test in more relaxed conditions.
Just as an aside - the infamous -1073741819 error doesn’t seem to be memory related - it’s the same issue with royal render and apparently an issue with XSI instead. Here’s a fix although I’m not 100% on how it’s implemented:
http://www.binaryalchemy.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=651&view=previous&sid=dce6b8afa0fea3bb70814951d9c2a18e
Seems those files are to do with XSI workgroups and plugins not loading properly - http://softimage.wiki.avid.com/xsidocs/custom_basics_CreatingandUsingWorkgroups.htm
Hi!
Any idea how to fix the infamous -1073741819?
“Ok… I deleted the [RRender]\render_settings\xsi\Softimage\XSI_65\Application\spdl.xsiindex file (which was the file accessed last).
It re-created the file and everything works fine.”
I don’t see the spdl.xsiindex file anywhere!
regards
Hi Gary,
I don’t see the spdl.xsiindex file anywhere!
From the looks of the path, this file is specific to Royal Render, which would explain why you can’t find it if you’re using Deadline.
Check out this thread on our forum:
http://support.franticfilms.com/wb/default.asp?action=9&read=563&fid=7&BoardID=2#2402
If you look at the 3rd post from the bottom, someone else found a solution that worked for them. Maybe it can help you too. This thread also contains a potential workaround to the problem where you can configure Deadline to ignore this error code.
Cheers,
- Ryan
