I am using an alternate plugin.ini file with my render jobs currently. When I send the job it seems that some machines on the farm are still looking at their local ini files and are trying to load plugins twice and then erroring out. does the alternate ini override the local or does it just append to it under normal conditions?

Which version of Deadline are you rendering with? In 5.0 and earlier, there was a bug where the User plugin.ini file would still be applied when an alternate plugin.ini file was specified. This was fixed in 5.1 and later.

That must be it. I am not on 5.1 yet. Is there a fix for 5?
No, there isn’t unfortunately. I don’t have the code in front of me at the moment, but you could probably edit 3dsmax.py in \your\repository\plugins\3dsmax if you’re feeling ambitious.
