August 27th is Krakatoa Day

Today is Krakatoa Day.



On August 26th-27th, 1883, the REAL Krakatoa volcano erupted, creating tsunamis, a mini-nuclear winter and changing the meaning of the expression “once in a blue moon”, among other things.



Not exactly a reason to celebrate, but worth mentioning…
