If you have the tile preview open when you save a max file it’ll expect it when you reopen it. But since the deadline window isn’t open the scripted plugin hasn’t been loaded yet.

I confirm this is a problem. Within the SMTD, if you navigate away from the ‘tiles’ tab, the gizmo is destroyed for both tile and region rendering.
However, there is still a chance that a user could hit save whilst one of the gizmo’s is enabled, thereby causing the missing dll issue later in another booted up copy of 3dsMax.
Probably add a temporary (callbacks.addScript #filePreSave) to resolve and unregister the callback when SMTD is closed?
