Cinema 4D license problems

Hi there!

We bought 4x C4D R17 commandline render licenses and installed them on a C4D license server on Windows (farm also runs on Windows 7). I’ve installed C4D R17 on 6 of my render machines, created a group ‘c4d’ for these 6 machines and also created a limit in our Deadline 7.2.1 set to ‘4’. The idea is to have more machines in the c4d group than I have licenses, so if I have machine downtime/problem, there still are enough machines available to use all C4D licenses. In principal, rendering of C4D just works fine most of the time.

BUT: from time to time, I get an error on some of the tasks:

2016-06-01 10:32:32: 0: STDOUT: Missing serial number for ‘CINEMA 4D’!
2016-06-01 10:32:32: 0: STDOUT: ----
2016-06-01 10:32:32: 0: STDOUT: Invalid License from License Server

Seems like sometimes the C4D commandline renderer sometimes doesn’t releases the license fast enough after the task is finished successfully or so. If Deadline now chooses a different machine out of my c4d group, there isn’t a license available for a short period of time. At least, this is my guess at the moment.

Does anyone have experience with C4D commandline licensing? Or Ideas, how to tweak/config the license server parameters (lease time, etc.)? Or any idea, how to deal with this problem inside of Deadline (something like a ‘wait x seconds after finishing rendering’ or so!?)

The Maxon support isn’t very helpful until now :frowning:

Thanks!

Check the default lease time in your license server. Its usually set to 10 min. You should be able to make a separate group only for your commandline slaves with a separate lease time, like 1 min or 10 sec

Hello,

I think bonsak is on the right path on this one. Let us know how his suggestion works.
