Hi all.
If I submit a Maya2013sp2 job with Vray2 as the renderer and DR (Distributed Rendering) checked it submits the file, renders in Deadline and from there also the DR Spawner/Slave.
I think I remeber D5 wouldn’t pick up the jobs if DR was running, or there was something that prevented this from happening.
Is there a workaround for this or could anyone recommend one? Could the solution be to just make a script that will start and stop the DR slaves on the render nodes.
Thanks
Ant
Hey Ant,
If you have beta access, Deadline 6.1 ships with VRay DR support for 3dsmax and Maya.
No, there was nothing like this in D5 (at least anything that shipped with Deadline). The slave doesn’t watch for any other processes on the machine.
That could work, but if you want to get on the 6.1, you can use our built-in VRay DR support instead (and give us feedback). If you don’t have beta access, shoot an email to beta@thinkboxsoftware.com.
Cheers,
Thanks Ryan, I’ll give the beta a go.
There was definitely some issue with having the DRSpawner and trying to render through deadline, it might have been license related or something…anyway It was down to VRay and not you guys that that was happening
thanks again
Ant
You could do this with an Event script in 5.X – I replied to a similar question (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10195) with a description of how we do it and it’s been quite solid. Because we don’t have Slaves and DR running on the same machines we avoid having the two contend for resources (Vray DR likes to use as much CPU as it can get) and this simplifies the logic of job distribution. Of course, if this control and logic is already built into 6.1 that sounds like a better way to go at this point.
Hey Ant,
How is the beta working for you? Let us know if you need anything.
