deadline 3.0 - task group problem

hi there

we have just started testing deadline as render management system for after effects (8.0, pro).

the job submission works fine. but the job always just gets assigned to one slave (all frames are one task), no matter what task group size or machine limit i define in the submission script. the task group size gets reset to 10000, the machine limit to 1.
when i run the after effects sumbission from the monitor (defining the aep file and the comp), i can define the task group size and the machine limit just fine. the job-tasks are then queued to the slaves. but every slave overwrites the output file. i think when i do the sumbission from the monitor, the flag “Use Comp Frame Number” isn’t set properly.

my goal is to run the submission script from an after effects client and distribute the render task to more then one slave…

do you know what i mean? have you any indea what causes this?

thanks!

Hi Tobias and a Happy New Year!

What is the output set to? If it is a multi-frame format like MOV or AVI, it will automatically cause the job to run on a single machine since these formats don’t support out-of-order processing and have to be created in one go.
If you are rendering to a frames sequence (like TGA, EXR, TIFF etc.) and it is doing what you describe, it might be a bug.

Happy New Year to you too!

yes i was trying to render an AVI. your explanation sounds very clear.

the task group feature works fine with a TGA sequence.

thanks a lot!
