I’ve got a question to Deadline 3. What is the official release and in what way does it support osx?
Primarily we would like to use Deadline to render Maya-, Fusion- and After Effects jobs.
The problem: We also have to encode quicktime movies over network (from a single file / not an image sequence).
If Deadline 3 is able to do that, we don’t need osx. If not, we need osx to do the encoding by Apple Compressor. In that case Deadline needs to be osx compatible. In a press release i saw that it is possible. But can I render Fusion jobs on a osx mashine? I can’t imagine, because there is no osx version of fusion out there.
I hope you can help me because we’re very interested in your software. And by the way, if you need another beta tester, please write us
deadline itself cannot create quicktimes or do anything to your files, it can only control programs that can do that.
by default there is a “generate quicktime with fusion” script and also the “submit to cleaner xl” plugin.
why would you stick to compressor if you have a maya, fusion, ae pipeline? this sounds like a pretty mature workflow, why not change your way of creating quicktimes to a more “professional app” as well? (cleaner, carbon coder, etc…). there is plenty of good windows based encoders out there…
hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to call me, we are based in berlin as well…
cheers,
Deadline also supports creating QT’s through Apple QT’s Active X control on Windows. Just install the latest version of QT on your slaves and workstations and you’re good to go. As Timor mentioned, Cleaner XL might be a good solution for you as well. We have a client who does all their movie encodings through Cleaner XL and Deadline, and they have helped us greatly improve our Cleaner XL support. One useful feature we’ve recently added is the ability to batch submit an entire folder of movie files, all with the same encoding options.
Deadline 3.0 should be released next week, but it will only include support for Linux. We hope to begin beta testing for Deadline 3.1, which will include the OSX support, sometime in September. If you would like to test out Deadline 3.0, the beta program is still open: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=16
