Deadline 6 directory not found and jobs hanging

We are getting the following error a lot

error occurred while writing report log: Could not find a part of the path ‘\ttuc-3d01\deadlinerepository6\reports\jobs\72\2\51e048aa8a2e8f137c798722.bz2’. (System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException)

additionally we see a lot of jobs hanging on frame 0 without throwing an error and they will sit for days if we let them

thanks,

First, check \ttuc-3d01\deadlinerepository6\reports\jobs to see if there are subfolders in it. If there are none, you could have a rogue Slave or Pulse running v5 that is removing those subfolders. See this thread for more info:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9817

If those folders are there, check to make sure the repository folder permissions allow full read/write access.

]I have attached screen grabs of the folder that I believe is having the issues.
there are sub folders in there but nothing that matches the path from the error.

I have also screen grabbed my slave list, nothing attached to this repository is running a version 5.
I do not believe there are any version 5 repository files left or any computers on my network running version 5, but I am not sure how to do a comprehensive audit to prove that.

thanks for your help

Actually, the directory you want to check for subfolders is C:\DeadlineRepository6\reports\jobs, not C:\DeadlineRepository6\jobs.

If you had a v5 Slave or Pulse connecting to your v6 repository, they wouldn’t show up because v5 wouldn’t be entering anything for itself in the database, which is where the slave info is stored now. In fact, if you see a Slaves or Pulses folder in the repository root (C:\DeadlineRepository6), blow away their contents. If you do have a v5 Slave or Pulse trying to connect, they should add themselves to one of those folders, which will help you track them down.

empty folder

The empty folder explains the error, and suggests you have a Deadline 5 application (Slave or Pulse) connecting to the repo. Did you try my other suggestion?

This has perfectly answered my problem when moving to 6.0 as well thanks for this thread guys!

Up to a point this has answered my question.

We’re still not able to have slave logs record their output due similar errors to the below.

DirectoryNotFoundException – Could not find a part of the path ‘\repoServer\repository\reports\jobs\8a\a\52692e937390460d141378aa.bz2’.

Indeed the folder “\repoServer\repository\reports\jobs” is completely empty and I’ve blown away the slaves and pulses folder in the root of repo and I’m pretty sure we’re v.5.2 free the best I can see.

Currently running.

Deadline Version: 6.0.0.51561
FranticX Version: 2.0.0.51521

with our repo on a Linux system with all it’s permissions open to those on the network.

Is there any logs in particular that’d help clear this up that I can post here?

Hello,

Just to verify, you cleared out the slaves folder and it was not recreated? If it was, then it should have a folder inside of it that is named after the machine name that is the culprit. If not, then a reinstall of the repository should recreate the folders you need. If you need we can try a remote session and try to get to the bottom of this, just email us at support@thinkboxsoftware.com

Cheers,

I’ve copied over the default hexadecimal folders (00 to FF) and their contents onto the production repo from the two seat dev repo I’m testing things on just now.

used this path \reposerve\repodir\reports\jobs

Task render logs initially now seem to be recording the data ok. Will report back if this doesn’t fix it.

Cheers!

update: Next day and all is well, working like a charm and I didn’t have to re-install on that server. Should point out I used same installer two different servers so something was probably amiss on our side here.
