Hello,
I was trying to find out if there is still some way to do Netsend notifications in Deadline 6. It was in Deadline 5, but I don’t see that option in User Settings anymore.

I’ve been told a new system like the net messages is coming maybe in 6.1.

Hi,

I was just looking to see if the old deadline 5 “Send Net Message/Growl Notification” feature was back in the latest deadline 6 beta 7 but I dont think it is. Is this going to be added back? It was a really useful feature to comunicate within the studio!

To my knowledge netsend is back in, at least in the most recent build. You can find it under the Tools menu, then Configure Monitor Options, then User Settings. Change 'Send Popup Notifications" to True and it will use netsend to send those messages back to you. Hope that helps!

Hi,

So I should be able to send a net message from my machine by right clicking on the slaves name and it pop up on the slave, sort of an instant messenger, like in D5?

Hi Mike,

I’ll take a look a those. It was an option in D5 under the slave right click called;

Send Net Message/Growl Notification

And you just types a message and it was sent to the slave as a pop up.

Very simple, and useful, just not in D6.

FYI.

Deadline v6.1 beta 8 (released today) adds a “Send Pop Up Message” RC feature to various RC “script” menus throughout the Deadline Monitor application and also Deadline Launcher - “Scripts” menu.

Similar to the Deadline v5 “net send” message feature but with a number of important improvements:

  1. Now cross-platform supported (previously only supported on Windows)
  2. Exposed as a Python script in multiple, convenient RC scripts menu locations.
  3. Can be customised by studios if required.
  4. Added features include ability to quickly insert file/folder path & load/save/clear the message window
  5. Where possible, the MachineName(s) (computer name) are pre-populated in the dialog.

note: Deadline Launcher must be running for the feature to work.
