Okay… I know it’s a bit odd in the age of win 10, but I just installed win 7 64bit pro on one of my older nodes.
Somehow I can’t get the deadline launcher (or monitor or slave) to run on that pc.
It previously had win 7 and deadline running (switched HDD for a SDD now) so I know it’s possible.
Could it be that due to the fresh install it’s missing some support files that are usually provided by the system.
I did update it to win7 sp1, but not much more after that.
it really does nothing (i double-click it, see the the loading icon for 1 second and then nothing).
Tried compatibility mode / elevated etc.
But could very well be on this side as it’s a real clean windows and the only thing that has been installed so far is teamviewer, chrome and CCleaner.
I only have a small list of windows updates (see attached) which I find suspicious as in general win 7 needs at least 4 update runs before it’s done patching itself
Can you run one of the Deadline apps from the command prompt on that machine with the --console command, for example:
deadlinemonitor --console
and send over the resulting output? I think we might have fixed stuff recently here revolving around this, but I want to see if you get the same output others have.
Just reading this at the moment as I wanted to report it’s somehow ‘magically’ fixed
Basically what I did was the following:
re-install deadline 3 times - didn’t work
used system restore to restore back to the service pack 1 installation
installed 3dsmax
installed deadline again
since then it’s working !
I’m still not getting any windows updates… but don’t care much as it’s a slave only and deadline works
So it’s solved… if you wish I can still get you a log, but guess it’s useless now?
on another note:
I have 11 machines on which Wake On Lan is functioning fine when used via my own WOL webpage script.
However, there is one machine (one of 2 windows 10 machines) that doesn’t want to be woken up by deadline
I can wake it up via WOL via my own page, but it doesn’t turn on via deadlines power management.
When I manually start it via the monitor it doesn’t want to wake up either
when ever i have had this issue it has been because deadline is running as another user instance. I just use task manager to ensure im the only user logged in and close all thinkbox products and try again
mmh, i think I do not fully understand what you’re saying .
I only have one user on the deadlinemanager machine. within that session it does wake up the other 10 machines. it’s only the one that doesn’t work.
can you elaborate?
Just to step in here, there are some parts of Deadline that will not run multiple instances of the same executable, especially the launcher and Monitor, the latter being able to be done using specific commands, but in a normal sense they are a single run executable. That is what could have been happening, is that the application started, saw an instance already running, and kills itself. Either way, I am glad it’s working for you now.
