Deadline 8 not starting up machines

After moving from Deadline 7 to 8 we are finding Pulse is no longer starting render machines?

It shuts them down OK, but won’t start them up.

It worked flawlessly in Deadline 7

Hmm… Nothing should have changed there… Might be a configuration setting that didn’t come over?

Are you seeing the wake requests in the Pulse log? Might make sense to enable “Advanced Pulse Logging” in the “Application Data” section of the “Configure Repository” window. If WOL requests are going it, it should be waking them back up.

Also, if you still have the 7 Repo kicking around, it might be good to check them both side-by-side. Maybe the data import tool missed something if you used that.

It looks like it is doing a machine check but the logs (attached) says…

2016-09-15 16:28:28: Power Management - Machine Startup: - slave is not valid because of job’s machine limit

However the job machine limit is set to 0 as in Deadline 7, presumeably infinite.

What’s confusing is if the machines are manually started they will start the job.

I’ve checked the power management machine startup settings and the servers are in the renderfarm group which is enabled for machine startup.

We still have Deadline running and I’ve been pretty thorough in double checking all the entries are the same, but you never know

So, it turns out some limit changes likely broke this. We’re investigating and hopefully can having something ready to roll in a future service pack.
