Hello,
I’m having a problem getting the slaves that I install the deadline client on to be recognized in the deadline configuration window. They will show up in the monitor as well as the deadline config window but inside in the config window the only place that it shows that is connected is under the ‘ping’ section where it says ‘online’. If I go to the specific computer/slave that I’m looking at and open up the deadline config window it does show the launcher version and repository path and everything else.
The computers are on the same subnet and I can ping both thru the cmd line so I’m curious as to why this is happening. I’ve tried disabling the firewall completely on both computers but it doesn’t have an effect. I’ve also tried two other computers on a different subnet with the same issue.
The computers are running vista 64bit and 32bit Service Pack 2 - deadline version 3.1 with the appropriate 64 and 32 bit versions of deadlined installed on the respective computers.
Thanks for any help,
chance
Thanks Ryan!
I apologize for not finding that on my own. Just when you think you’ve checked everywhere…
Seems I don’t have Radmin installed. That would be my problem.
Would not having Radmin installed cause any other issues when rendering thru deadline?
Thanks again,
chance
Hi Chance,
Actually, Radmin (AKA: Remote Administrator) is just a remote viewer, like VNC or RDC, and doesn’t need to be installed to do what you’re looking for. What you need to do is ensure that Remote Administration is enabled under the Launcher Settings in the Repository Options.
Cheers,
Hey Ryan,
Found the setting. You were right, I was getting the remote administrator and the remote administration mixed up. I appreciate your patience.
thanks,

So it works fine when deadline is installed as an app but when it is installed as a service I run into the same problem as before. I was hoping that installing as a service would work since these computers are going to be used for student workstations as well as render slaves when not in use and the less students see the more likely they won’t mess with the program.
Are there permissions on the service I need to setup? I’m confused as to why this isn’t working.
Thanks.

This should work fine. Check to make sure that the Deadline Launcher Service is actually running when trying to connect via the Configuration tool. If you don’t see the deadlinelauncherservice.exe process in the Task Manager, that means it’s not running, and could explain your problem.
We recommend running the Deadline Launcher Service under a non-SYSTEM account, and that should help avoid some permission issues. Also check if there are any firewall or antivirus software that may be blocking communication to the Launcher Service. Finally, make sure that when you installed all the client software that you used the same Launcher Listening Port.
Cheers,
I appreciate the response. I’ll give this a try.
Thanks.
