It should work just fine on XP32. Have you tried installing it yet? If it’s failing to install, are you getting an error message that you can send to us?
Ryan,
Seems like I did get an error when trying to install… but I can’t remember what it was. I will try installing again and go from there.
Thanks!
Ryan,
So I did successfully install Deadline on an XP32 SP3 machine and all seemed to go fine. I rebooted the system and after it started up, the Launcher was present in the taskbar.
I chose to open the Monitor and the splash screen appears but freezes on ‘Loading Iron Python Engine’ and stays there. If I right-click on Monitor in the taskbar, no menu options appear. If I open Task Manager, it says Monitor is running and I have to end the process using Task Manager.
Any ideas why it’s not working on XP32?
Thanks!
We’ve seen this happen before (albeit rarely), and the problem seems to happen when there is an issue loading the Python.NET engine. We don’t know why it affects the IronPython engine, but it does.
There are two things you can try:
In the Deadline install folder, delete the Python folder, then run the client installer again. Then restart the system.
If (1) doesn’t work, try adding a PYTHONPATH environment variable to your system, and set it to this:
C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\Deadline\python\2.6.7\win32\lib;C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\Deadline\python\2.6.7\win32\Dlls
This is assuming you’ve installed Deadline to the default location. If you installed it somewhere else, change the paths as appropriate. Then restart the system.
Hopefully one of these does the trick. In Deadline 6, we’ve changed the way we’ve bundled python with Deadline, and we’ve never seen this problem (even on the one machine here that has the Iron Python loading issue in Deadline 5).
Cheers,
Ryan,
Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, they didn’t work and it still hangs on the ‘Loading Iron Python Engine’.
When I tried to install originally, it complained that I didn’t have DotNet Framework 2 SP1 installed so I aborted the install and installed the SP1 stuff and then did the Deadline install. This system has Framework 2 SP1 and Framework 4 stuff but no 3 stuff. Do you think it would make a difference not having the 3 stuff?
Thanks again.
It shouldn’t need the .NET 3 stuff. Maybe check if all Windows updates have been applied. Sometimes that can fix weird issues like this.
I meant to get back to this sooner.
Thanks for the ideas Ryan. I did install all the latest updates for XP32 but unfortunately, the Monitor splash screen still hangs at the ‘Loading Iron Python Engine’ point. Might try a re-install of Deadline now that all the updates are in place and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks again.
