Deadline Monitor Tasks and Maya <Camera> tokens

GIVEN:
We submit a job to Deadline from within Maya, with the following options enabled…

-Submit Render Layers as Separate Jobs
-Submit Cameras as Separate Jobs

A token is within Maya’s File Name Prefix field.

RESULT:
Within the Deadline Monitor “Tasks” tab we can’t perform any of the following…

-Double-click to open a frame (or select frames from a multi-frame task).

-Selecting a task (or several tasks) and performing a click-and-drag into an image viewer
doesn’t load any frames into the image viewer. RV, for example, throws an error. Other
image viewers fail, likewise.

-Right-click and selecting…
-Explore Output or
-Copy Output path.
The opened dir defaults to the “images” dir within the Maya project, not the proper
“Camera” directory in which the files have been rendered.

-Right click doesn’t show the following item in the menu:
“View . for this frame.”

If we submit with only “Submit Render Layers as Separate Jobs” we don’t have any
problems.

Deadline Version: 5.1.0.46398
FranticX Version: 2.0.0.46397

I don’t know what the current version of our Submit script is. How can I find out?

An “About” menu/button in the Submit script would be handy to debug problems.

The .job file follows:

Renderer=mentalRay
UsingRenderLayers=1
RenderLayer=layer1
RenderHalfFrames=0
LocalRendering=0
StrictErrorChecking=1
MaxProcessors=0
MentalRayVerbose=Progress Messages
AutoMemoryLimit=1
MemoryLimit=0
Version=2012 x64
Build=64bit
ProjectPath=//pfcluster/Jack/PRODUCTION/assets/characters/monk02a/3d/maya
ImageWidth=640
ImageHeight=480
AspectRatio=1.333333254
OutputFilePath=//pfcluster/Jack/PRODUCTION/assets/characters/monk02a/3d/maya/images/
OutputFilePrefix=///_
Camera=camShape2
Camera0=
Camera1=camShape1
Camera2=camShape2
Camera3=camShape3
Camera4=frontShape
Camera5=perspShape
Camera6=sideShape
Camera7=topShape
SceneFile=//pfcluster/Jack/PRODUCTION/assets/characters/monk02a/3d/maya/scenes/surfacing/renderCamTest.mb
IgnoreError211=0

This is currently a limitation of the Submit Cameras as Separate Jobs option. I’m guessing the reason is that Maya doesn’t resolve the tag until render time, but theoretically we can just manually swap out that tag so that we can support browsing the output file name from the Monitor.

Can you post a sample scene with at least 3 cameras that we could use to test our theory? If it’s possible, we should be able to support it in Deadline 5.2, and if it’s a simple change, we can post the code modifications here for 5.1.

Cheers,

  • Ryan
