Hey I’m considering using deadline for a large job. The documentation states that it is recommended that for e.g. 3ds max be installed on the slave machines but does not say it is a requirement. It is just the company who is going to lease me a render node have said that you don’t need all the software used to render the project be installed on the slave. I always thought that the slave machines must have the same software installed as the machine that you created the project on.
I am just trying to clear this up before I go ahead and hire in a render node. Just wondering if anyone could help clear this up
Hi,
To network render 3dsMax files you need the particular version of 3dsMax to be installed on each rendernode. Each install must also have identical hotfixes /service packs installed on it to ensure you get a reliable result from your network rendering. Autodesk 3dsMax does not require a license to network render including built in Mental Ray. However, it is common for 3rd party plugins to require network rendering licenses.
HTH,
Mike
