Hi there,
I run a small animation studio and we are evaluating Deadline for our OSX network.
We’ve installed Deadline on our XServe (running OSX Server 10.5). I’ve also installed X11 and Mono 2.x. But when I try to launch any Deadline app at all, I get a bouncing icon for a second or so and then it disappears.
Additionally, during installation, Deadline asks for the location of my repository. We already have a shared RAID 5 array set up on the server that we currently use for projects and I want to set it to that, but the Deadline menu prompt only allows me to look at the contents of my desktop…?
Deadline looks like it could be awesome for us, but none of us here are IT pros (just stoopid artists) so I apologize for my ignorance. Does anyone have any idea what I may be doing wrong?
Thanks!
Check the logs in /Applications/Deadline/Resources/logs to see if they explain why the app is failing to start up. Feel free to post a log if you’re not sure what to make of the error (if there is one).
The problem with only being able to select stuff from the Desktop is a Mono issue. We’re going to try to workaround it in an upcoming maintenance release that will get people by until the Mono team fixes the problem.
Cheers,
Thanks for the prompt response Russell.
I checked the logs, but there’s no errors. Not even a log at all other than the intall log, which looked ok.
Maybe this is a Mono issue for OSX Server?
An Update:
I installed Deadline on an OSX workstation and the programs are launching. Maybe it is OSX Server issue with Mono?
That’s interesting. Here is something to try. Open up a terminal and try to run the Monitor by typing in the following and pressing Enter:
deadlinemonitor
If anything goes wrong, it should print out something to the console that you can post here.
Thanks!
