DF failed to load de comp!

Hi…
i´m testing deadline and it worked fine while i was using my PC (WinXP64) as a repository and another one as a slave… things were going fine so i decided to do some final testing putting the repository in my server machine (Win server 2003 64bits), but then my fusion rendering started to give me some problems o.O

0: STDOUT: Connected to Fusion
0: STDOUT: Getting comp list.
0: STDOUT: Loading comp C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Frantic Films\Deadline\slave\jobsData\ExtC2.comp
0: STDOUT: ERROR: DF Failed to load the comp C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Frantic Films\Deadline\slave\jobsData\ExtC2.comp
0: An exception occurred: An error occurred in StartJob(): DF Failed to load the comp C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Frantic Films\Deadline\slave\jobsData\ExtC2.comp (FranticX.Processes.ManagedProcessAbort) (Deadline.Plugins.RenderPluginException)
0: Unloading plugin: Fusion

I´v imagined that maybe my server were bloking the conection to the *.comp, but i´v cheked and the file is there o.O

Was this exact same comp working before, or is this a different comp? The comp is copied locally to the slave machine before loading it, so it shouldn’t be a file access issue. It might just be a problem with the comp file (like a missing plugin or something). Are you using RenderSlave.exe or ConsoleSlave.exe as the render executable? Both will work, but I think ConsoleSlave.exe prints out some more information during logging that might explain the problem. Another option would be to submit the job with the Command Line mode enabled. While this disables a few options (like proxy, high quality, and output checking), it too might print a better error that might help diagnose what the problem is.

Hey,

I’m having the exact same problem. If I load the comp directly into the Render Slave Render Manager, it works fine and has no access errors. If I submit it via Deadline it gets an error and says it cannot load the comp. This is using ConsoleSlave.exe. If I change it to RenderSlave.exe then it works fine. I need it to use ConsoleSlave.exe so I get more information about progress. I suspect it may be an unclosed " or something in the scripts because it seems to fail in the same way if I manually do it via a command prompt and misplace a ". That may be a wild goose chase though. Either way, I’m getting the same results as described above. Any help?

Kyle

Hi Kyle,

Deadline communicates with ConsoleSlave the exact same way that it does with RenderSlave. The arguments passed to it are identical, as are the scripts that it runs. The only difference is that ConsoleSlave.exe is swapped out with RenderSlave.exe (or vice versa). So I find it strange that it works with one and not the other. If I’m not mistaken, I believe RenderSlave and ConsoleSlave are installed to the same location, so if it was the case of a missing plugin, it should affect them both.

Did you try rendering the comp using ConsoleSlave with the Command Line option enabled as suggested in the previous post? I’m hoping that if the command line mode fails, it will print out a better error message.

Hi Ryan,

Has anyone found an absolute reason for this? I have began receiving this message only a few days ago and only on 1 of 12 machines used for rendering Fusion.
Both the console slave and render slave are posing the same problem.
As each of thee 12 machines are a clone one of the next, I cannot see any reasoning behind why 11 will work and 1 not with the exact same scene (frames distributed amongst them).

Thanks.

You mention using ConsoleSlave and RenderSlave, but did you try using the “Use Command Line Rendering” option when submitting the job? Command Line Mode is sometimes better at printing out why it can’t load a comp.

Maybe the problem is due to a Fusion plugin that is licensed separately and it can’t get a license during rendering.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I should have also mentionned, that I uninstalled Fusion and all the plugins and the deadline application on the machine in question.
Relicensed all the plugins and ensured everything works locally before visiting the forum.

Will check the command line option. But it’s one (1) of 12 machines in a pool, when a few hundred frames are submitted. All other machines are working…
