DL6 AE on mac submitter error

stupid question, you have enabled ‘Allow Scripts to Write File and Access Network’ under AE general prefs, right?

Hi there,

I am getting the same error on Mac. Was this issue resolved? How?

Thanks!

I’ve worked with clients to figure this out before. I don’t remember specifics, but there may have been problems with the DEADLINE_PATH file under… “/Users/Shared/Thinkbox/Deadline6”? I think it may have been a read problem.

We can always hack the script file again, but I’d like to deal with this problem properly.

It certainly has never been resolved on our side, would love to get it fixed!

Hello Timor,

Can you verify if the file Edwin mentioned was containing the right path? Thanks.

Hi Dwight,

this is what the the DEADLINE_PATH file says:

/Applications/Thinkbox/Deadline6/Resources

I also uploaded the error message I am getting in CS6…

Thumbs pressed we can find the issue this time.

There is a second error message after the first with the saving error (see attachment)

Hello Timor,

Can you verify what system user is running the deadlineslave application, and then login as that user and try to write a file to that location provided in the errror message? Thanks!

Not sure I understand…I am logged in as me, so I assume the launcher is running under my username.

I saved the AE file to my desktop no problems, it just seems that the script is not allowed to save it again on submission, which is strange…
and yes, I have the “allow scripts to access network” activated.

Let me know if this is what you wanted to know.

Thanks,

Timor

Hello,

Can you actually verify the system account that is running the slave application? Often times, even if you launch it, it’s not running as your user account. You can verify this in the Activity Monitor. Thanks.

Hello we are getting the same error here as the OP. All Mac based, OSX 10.8.4, (one on OSX10.9.2 but happening on all machines). Deadline 6.1 release. Aftereffects 12.2.1.
Any thoughts?

Mike

Yes, verified, every single process is running under my user…

Timor,

I am going to try to sit down with Ryan tomorrow and see what we can come up with on this. Sadly it looks like it was several months from his last question to when this was reactivated, so it might be a start from scratch in the thinking. What version of Deadline are you currently running? As Ryan had asked, as well, Which version of AE is this? It’s really odd that it’s affecting all of your workstations, since we can’t reproduce here. It’s good that others are reporting this, though, and I am hoping other have tried the earlier suggestions, and have found the exact same results as you did.

Hi Dwight,

thanks for making this a priority.
As we are awaiting our first batch of new Mac Pros, this topic will gain importance in the company in the next couple of weeks, so this is a good timing to tackle this…

We are running the latest relase 6.1.0.54665 and I get the same error from CS6 and CC.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Timor

Any news on this guys?

Mike

Hi,
Just tested and everything seems fine for me. I’m on: OSX 10.9.2, AE CS6, Deadline v6.1.0.54665. So, few thoughts:

  1. What happens if you try to save an After Effects project file *.aep to your desktop? Does it work? ie: no file/access permissions issue? Are you able to save an After Effects file to: “/Volumes/Users/timor.kardum/Desktop/test.aep” manually in AE? I’m going to assume that all users/permissions, file permissions are all as they should be. Do you have any Anti-Virus / anti-something software which might be blocking our commands here? If so, can you disable just whilst we continue to test?

  2. In a terminal on your OSX machine, please type: “echo $PATH”. Please post the result. Again, in a terminal, can you type: “bash”. Does it drop into the bash shell successfully? You can type “exit” to escape it. I assume when you type “mono -V” as well in terminal, you get a nice result displaying that Mono is running at version, v2.10.9?

  3. Maybe, After Effects prefs file is screwed? On OSX, hold down “shift” + “alt” + “cmd” keys when you click on the AE icon/shortcut when you go to start up AE. Dialog will appear, asking you to confirm deletion of “preferences file”, click to confirm. Test again. (make sure you re-enable the preferences option to “Allow scripts/files to access network” option in AE prefs after the purge.)

Let us know if this helps at all and we can take it from there. This is a little tricky as all our tests here have so far drawn a blank. :frowning:
Mike

Hi Mike,

1.: I saved the file out of AE on the desktop and all permissions are fine (read/write). No anti-virus or similar is running.

  1. I was on Mono 2.6, updated to 2.10 now, but no difference. Bash shell is running.
This is the echo PATH: /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/X11/bin

  2. Did a pref reset…no avail.

Sorry I couldn´t give better news.

Timor

OK, thanks for trying. Our OSX client installer should be installing Mono 2.10 for you automatically, so very strange that your machine was running an un-supported version.
I’m stumped here. Probably best if you submit a support ticket and we can organise a remote debug session and see if we notice anything on your screen when you try and execute the script. In AE, if you go to File > Scripts > Open Script Editor, Open the “DeadlineAfterEffectsClient.jsx” file, select in the drop-down list to use “After Effects” and hit the “play” button on the top right to execute the script, it should crash and highlight the line ti crashes on. Maybe this will give us some more info to go on this.
