I tried doing a search first before posting this. I’ve noticed a rather annoying problem that I’m getting when I use the PRT Surface in a scene. First a background.
I’m using the PRT Surface to produce points on a surface(duh) that is animated - an Xmesh to be exact. The problem is that it’s lightning, so it’s very inconsistent, and not always on every single frame. I’m also using frost to mesh those extra particles. Within my actual max scene, it’s fine. I can scrub through and render locally with no problem. But after doing some troubleshooting I’ve noticed that even if I just have a basic PRT surface inside of my scene that isn’t connected to anything, it causes Deadline to spit out errors.
On top of that, if I use the PRT surface’s option for Particle Count over Spacing, it crashes my scene and basically makes it unrecoverable. My logic regarding Deadline is that it’s asking the PRT’s for points on a surface, and because there are no surface, the PRT can’t tell Deadline where the points are so it spits out the error.
I guess the overall problem is that I’m using this in a facility/Production environment so my options are limited. I just wanted to write this up just in case it wasn’t known, or it was just happening to me.
My biggest gripe is just having the empty PRT Surfaces causing the error. Mostly because I have to delete them at render time and then when I version-up I have to rebuild my scene; rinse and repeat.
