The copy of the Max scene file saved with this job looks to be corrupt. When you say:

I’m confused. Your rendernodes are all working, except one? Does this Max file open on your workstations ok? Have you installed or changed anything since yesterday when everything was rendering ok? Autodesk just released SP3 for Max2016 yesterday, so it would do no harm to install this on ALL your machines. If this job renders ok on other nodes, can you provide their job log reports so we can compare and see if anything stands out?

“Error: 3dsmax: Failed to load max file” - This error can also mean an issue (licensing?) with one or more 3rd party plugins where it fails during the file being opened on a particular machine.

I have totally 5 nodes and I can manually render the max file in all the five nodes but when i launch the same file from max through deadline all 5 nodes fail with the same error. I haven’t installed any software or did any changes.

Hmmm…interesting. Can you try disabling the 3dsmaxcmd check in the 3dsmax plugin config settings here:
docs.thinkboxsoftware.com/produc … figuration

“Run Render Sanity Check” set it to False and try again. Does the 3dsmax log reports get any further this time then the line:

“0: INFO: 3dsmaxcmd.exe returned:”

If so, then it looks like your install of Backburner has corrupted for some reason.

Dear Mike,
How to solve the corrupted backburner issue, please help.

Typically, it should be an uninstall and then re-install of Backburner via Add/Remove Programs via Control Panel.
If after re-installing and a reboot, 3dsMax still won’t render with this “Run Sanity Check” enabled, then you will have 2 choices, leave this check permanently off in the Deadline settings, if it means you are able to render successfully going forward OR a full re-install of 3dsMax by uninstalling, purging the directory after uninstall and then fresh install of 3dsMax & any other components it is using. Typically, if you get to this stage, then it might be easier to either live without this check being enabled or consider re-applying a complete VM image which would speed up the reimaging process of your rendernodes.

We had issues with Backburner updating when we went from MAx2015 to Max2016. There was a Microsoft fix that needed to be applied, see here for details: knowledge.autodesk.com/search-r … stall.html

Oh, good catch! I hadn’t seen that “Backburner is corrupt!” error message before! I think I’ll add this to our known FAQ’s for the next customer! Thanks!
