error obtaining license

Sometimes a slave will crash, and need to be restarted. However when we restart the slave it gives an error message saying weve maxed out our licensees, even though we haven’t. Weve found a way around by restarting our server, but im hoping there is an alternate method that wont involve a total shutdown.

I think it might be caused because when our slave machines are started they cant see the server. we have to actually open my computer and double click the server. the server then asks for a username and password. we can put anything or nothing in for username and password and it will allow us and deadline to see inside the server. Im also curious if anyone knows a way we can turn that off, so that when a machine starts we dont have to go into it and allow it to see the server.

thanks for the great help

Unfortunately, the only known workaround is to restart the license server. This is more of an issue with flexlm, and from our experience there isn’t much that can be done about this. You can take comfort though in the fact that the slaves will continue to render if the license server goes down for a bit.

I think you just need to set permissions on your repository so that everyone has full access:

By the way, are you running Deadline 3.0 or 3.0 SP1? SP1 fixes a bunch of crashing issues with the slave, and can be downloaded from here:
