Errors after 5.1 upgrade

Hi,

I recently upgraded to 5.1 at our studio. Now about 1/2 of the render machines are erroring on renders.
I haven’t seen this type of error before and am not sure what to do about it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rhys.

Hi Rhys,

This error shows that Max is crashing when loading the scene file (likely due to corrupted memory). This error has come up before, so it’s not something specific to 5.1.

Were these scenes that worked with 5.0, or are these brand new scenes? Do the scenes that are crashing have things in common (ie: plugins, caches, etc)? Are you able to launch Max on the render nodes and load these scenes that crash?

Cheers,

  • Ryan

Thanks for the help.

I haven’t been able to solve it yet.

Some things I have found:

The frames render fine when set off manually on the machines.
They only crash when using slave mode.

Problem is, we don’t have enough max licenses to render the frames in workstation mode.

R

I took another look at the error log, and noticed that you have all the “Ignore Missing…” options enabled:

Maybe there is something the slaves are unable to load, but the error isn’t obvious because everything is being ignored. I would first try disabling the missing DLL option first and submit again. Assuming you get another error, please post and we’ll take a look. You can then disable all the “Missing …” options and submit again. Post that error as well.

Finally, can you try rendering with 3dsmaxcmd.exe on the slaves? If that also results in an error, then at least we know it’s not something specifically related to Deadline.

Cheers,

  • Ryan
