Feature Request: Task Priority

Hi Guys,

It would be good if you could select a queued task or group of tasks and right click an have a “render this/these next”.

It wouldn’t need to be a full priority system, Just a way of processing certain tasks sooner than others.

Thanks
M

Actually, this is coming to version 7 sort of. There, you’ll be able to suspend/resume/queue individual tasks and get what you’re after. At least, you can suspend the lower priority tasks until the high priority ones are done.

If you know ahead of time though, you can specify it within the task list in previous Deadline versions back to at least 4.0 (I wasn’t around before then :stuck_out_tongue:).

If you wanted say, a specific set of 15 frames to render first you can do like so:
20-35,1-100

Deadline is smart enough to do the intersection when it renders 1-100 so it won’t re-render what’s already done. Also, you can do this for quick animation tests:
1-100x10,1-100

Here’s the docs for that:

Hi Edwin,

I knew that you could format your frame ranges in a number of different ways, but it’s great that deadline can sort out mixed strings and won’t create double tasks!

It never even occurred to me to try.

Thanks

Yeah, it’s pretty clever. The one thing that it does mess up is task size obviously, but it tries to satisfy it as best it can.
