Frame fails, but not the job

Good day everyone,

and sorry for the strange title…it’s also probably very simple but I cannot find a suitable option.
I have three computers rendering an animation, and if one frame fails, Deadline interrupts all other computers, even when those are rendering without any hitch.

What I’d like to happen when a worker fails a frame is:

  • other computers continue rendering without restarting the job
  • the “failed” worker reloads the scene and retries to render the failed frame for an X number of times before giving up and movign on to another frame of the same job

How do I set Deadline to behave like that? I’m using 3ds Max 2022 and V-Ray 5.

Thanks.

What you are describing sounds like the expected behavior of the plugin. Not sure why the entire job fails immediately in your case.

What are your job settings?

Tools > Configure Repository Settings > Job Settings > Failure Detection

If ‘Job Failure Detection’ is set to ‘Mark job as failed…’ and is set to 1 it will fail the job automatically after a single error

If you have issues with specific frames it’s best to use ‘Mark task failed…’ option, this will fail that frame/task and not the whole job, allowing the rest of the job to render.
