Handling bitmap paths

Hi,

What is the recommended way to handle bitmap paths in Deadline? After I finish a scene, I create a package out of Max and copy it to the network share. I then manually update the paths on both the Max machines to point to that new folder. This is a pain even with two machines, so I am wondering how larger render farms handle it?

Thanks!
Bob

The recommended way to handle this is to keep all your bitmaps and external references on a network share, and then reference them in your scene. That way, the scene file already has the network paths, which the render nodes will be able to use to find the files.

I thought of that, but the problem is that sometimes people create custom textures for me on machines other than the Max machines, and also I like to keep the resources of the project in the project directory so they are all together and easy to move around. Is there a way to have Deadline pick up Max paths from a custom file or something? Or maybe I can create a pre-render script to have the paths appended to the 3dsmax.ini on each new machine? Is this even possible? I just know basic Maxscript…

Thanks for the quick response as always!

Bob

You could keep the project directory on the network too - we also do that here. That way the project and its references are all on the network for everyone to access.

There is an option in the integrated 3dsmax submitter to submit bitmaps with the job (this option is under the Render tab). That could be an option as well.
