We see a lot of jobs doing this
the job will sit like this without error and without timing out, forever.
when i log in Max has not even started.
I have attached what i could get from the log, I hope its recent enough.

Hi,
Can you make sure you upgrade your submitting 3dsmax machine to be on the latest service pack for 2014, same as your rendernode?
2015-01-16 11:25:05: 0: INFO: Slave 3dsmax.exe version: 16.5.277.0
2015-01-16 11:25:05: 0: INFO: Slave 3dsmax.exe description: 3ds Max 2014 + servicepack_sp5
2015-01-16 11:25:05: 0: INFO: Submitted from 3dsmax.exe version: 16.3.253.0
2015-01-16 11:25:05: 0: INFO: Submitted from 3dsmax.exe description: 3ds Max 2014 + servicepack_sp3/subs_py_stereo_cam_extension
2015-01-16 11:25:05: 0: WARNING: Slave's 3dsmax version is NOT the same as the 3dsmax version that was used to submit this job! Unexpected results may occur!
The machine is failing to boot-up 3dsMax under this service user account. Can you logon to this machine using the same service user account and see if anything stands out as being an issue? Such as 3rd party plugin license blocking issue, which might explain why 3dsMax is failing to start on this machine.
We are verifying that all of our users are on Max SP5.
I apologize, but i am not sure exactly what you want me to do here:
“Can you logon to this machine using the same service user account and see if anything stands out as being an issue?”
I have logged in with the admin credentials that we leave all the slaves logged in with and dont see anything unusual.
Ah, interesting. I was assuming you run your farm without being logged into your rendernodes, but rather run Deadline in NT Service Mode and consequently any application that it drives, would run without being logged onto your machine. Is this the case? I’m thinking it’s not. In which case, these lines of your log are interesting:
2015-01-16 11:25:05: 0: WARNING: Language code could not be found in registry. Defaulting to ENU (English)
2015-01-16 11:25:05: 0: WARNING: Language sub directory could not be found in registry. Defaulting to en-US (English)
as it’s implying you are running the Windows OS on this system in a region/language other than English-US. Are you? Typically, I only ever see this message when the user account running Deadline and hence, 3dsMax, has never logged onto to this machine and started up 3dsMax. It might be worth checking this particular machine to see if anything stands out here for you?
I just connected to the machines and ran the GUI for Max, it would not start up.
We are re-imaging the computers that we see this behavior on.
we do leave the machines logged in and locked, with an account that has admin access.
most or all of our installs of Max will have never been run in GUI mode on our slaves.
once they are imaged I will verify i can run the GUI and that max operates as expected and see if the issue persists.
