Houdini Simulation Job

Hi to everyone,

I didn’t want to start a new support request as this is more of a general question at first.

Deadline submits and renders normal Houdini jobs great - however is there an option to do the same for simulation jobs? E.g. having a file DOP writing (rendering) out *.bgeo simulation geometry? I understand this won’t be possible for several slaves at once I guess, but even for one this would be pretty helpful.

Thank you very much in advance…

This thread might help:

Hi Ryan,

thanks for the quick response as always from Thinkbox.

I have read the thread linked by you. Well this is pretty much one (if not 3-4) steps ahead of what I was looking for. But still massively interesting as we would have tried that as next iteration.

However what I was looking for is an option to “render” out the sim. Meaning I have already simmed it more or less and now I am using an EXPORT SOP to “render” out the sim into a “bgeo.gz” geometry that can be used as Sim-Reload in the scene.
Houdini handles this EXPORT SOP as some kind of render process, but I am not sure Deadline recognizes it as the same?

I know you can specify which render node to render in the submitter (ie: /opt/mantra1). If you tried specifying the simulation node, I wonder if it would just work. If not, this is something we can probably look at for a future Deadline release.

HI,

yeah I thought about that as well, but first went to “did someone else try this before?”

I will give it a run in some free slave-time and post if it worked out.

I know this thread has gone a long time without any updates…

Is this something that has ever been implemented?

I am trying, without much success to get the HQueue from SideFX set up in order to get the Simulation portion working… But, if you guys already have it working… Than, I’ll skip there mess and go with your solution instead.

Thank you in advance.
