House Cleaning - job archive loop

Hi,

We’re running Deadline 7.1.2.1 R (53013d5bd).

While cleaning out a number of suspended jobs (over 600), I selected Delete from the right-click menu. The job entries disappeared from the suspended job list. Checking back on disk space later (Deleted Job Purging is set to 0), I noticed that the server space was not increasing.

Wondering if I had actually selected “Archive” and not “Delete,” I checked out the jobsArchived folders and noticed that their numbers were also not increasing. Rather, the datestamps were updating on items that had been archived a few months before.

Opening a console and running the Housecleaning in Monitor shows me that “Another house cleaning process is already in progress,” and sometimes will show an error indicating the housecleaning log cannot be accessed as it is being used by another process (System.IO.IOException).

Both Pending Job Scan and House Cleaning are set to run in separate processes.

It appears that the system is locked into an archive loop with a particular set of job auxiliary files being gone over again and again.

How do we stop this process and get back to normal?

There was a bug with the lock files on certain file servers. The issue is that if Deadline cannot create the lock file under “settings” in the Repository folder, it will not attempt to do that particular operation (House Cleaning, Pending Job Scan, etc). The workaround I had when file servers got stuck in that state was to rename the ‘settings’ folder, make a new folder named ‘settings’ and move the ini files in.

The way we fixed that was to move the lock into the database where it wouldn’t suffer from the same problem. It’s been working out really well for everyone there.
