Installation issues and delays in plugin responce

well, here it goes… been having this issue for a while now, and i am not sure it is related to my licensing issues or not…
I cannot install krakatoa or Frost on multiple versions of max at that same time… For instance if i install for max 2012 both Krak and Frost are no longer installed in 2011, and if i rerun the installer and install for 2011, they are removed from 2012. i have gone through the options of the installer and made sure to have both items selected…but no matter what i do, i cannot have it in both version of max at the same time…Which is annoying as I have clients that work with 2011 and some 2012…
Also, once it is installed in 2012, i have serious delays when first trying to launch any thinkbox product. IE, i try to switch the render to Krakatoa, max freezes for about 30 -60 seconds, then comes back with krakatoa loaded. Same thing if i Create/thinkbox/frost… try to create the frost max freezes for 30-60 seconds. Then i can drag the logo out… If i try to make a second frost, again max freezes… Of note, is that this does not happen in max 2011. Any suggestions, as this makes working in 2012 very annoying :stuck_out_tongue:
Hope your still enjoying that warm weather down there

To install Krakatoa on multiple versions of 3ds Max, you can run the installer once. After Krakatoa is installed, run Start->All Programs->Thinkbox->Krakatoa 1.6->Add Krakatoa to 3ds Max, and then choose your other version of 3ds Max. (For Frost, use Start->All Programs->Thinkbox->Frost 1.1->Add Frost to 3ds Max instead.)

I’m not sure what would cause such delays. We’ll need to look into the issue.

From technical point of view, when you run the installer, it copies all files into a Program Files folder (\Thinkbox\Krakatoa) and is completely independent from 3ds Max.
Then it asks you about adding the plugin to a version of 3ds Max - this is not part of the installer itself, but the installer running the Add Krakatoa to 3ds Max Wizard which is a separate utility. All this utility does is locate the plugin.ini file and add the correct entries to it to make the respective copy of 3ds Max load the plugins and scripts required by Krakatoa.

As Paul explained, running the Wizard from the Start menu will repeat just that last step of adding the plugin.ini entries - nothing changes in the Krakatoa install itself. Thus, you should only run the full Krakatoa installer if a new version is published and the files in Program Files need updating.

On top of that, a TD with Admin access could simply edit the plugin.ini file to add the paths to Krakatoa and Helium even without running the Wizard. This is also documented as a possible troubleshooting approach in the Krakatoa documentation.

As for the delay, I would suspect it is somehow caused by the attempt to communicate with the license server (assuming you are not running a node-locked license).
I have never seen this, so it is definitely not a common problem. I will let the actual developers who know more about the licensing system.

Paul/Bobo,
Thanks, I will check that out…and add krak/frost to the versions of max… i probably should have known that

As for the delay issue.... i am running network versions of everything... (most of the time i wish i wasn't, nothing but hassels)
if you need more information let me know!
