Jobs not starting up, unless I modify properties

Hello,

Me again sorry, continuing my Deadline evaluation.

We have a couple of jobs that have sat in the queue for about a week awaiting their turn … however now the queue is free they’re not kicking off rendering. Is there a limit to how long a job will wait ?.

One related issue is that if I click ‘modify properties’ in the monitor, and don’t change a thing then they’ll start up rendering.

We had a problem last week where an artist submitted a test render using Deadline 3.1, whilst our slaves are all using version 3.0.33. His jobs would submit fine but would just sit in the queue. We found that if another user modified the jobs properties using v3.0.33 of the monitor then the job would start up (you didn’t need to set anything, just opening the modify properties was enough).

I assumed this was down to a version mismatch and we reverted the artist’s machine back to 3.0.33, however these two issues now seem to behave the same way … even though I’m absolutely certain that this current batch of jobs were submitted via 3.0.33.

any help would be gratefully received !

cheers
ben

Is it possible for you to upgrade everything to 3.1 to see if that fixes the problem?
Mike

These issues could well be related to a Deadline version mismatch or .NET frameworks/C++ redists not being present on ALL the machines.
Mike

I’ve taken everything up to 3.1 and ensured we have the latest .Net and C++ stuff and so I’ll test further and see if that’s done the trick.

Thanks Mike

Hi Ben,
How’s the testing going? Is After Effects all sorted for you now?
No news, good news?
Mike

Hi there,

Aftereffects is still crashing once in a while, but I’ve got really busy again and haven’t had chance to conduct too many further tests.

However other than that I’ve found Deadline to be really stable and easy to use so far.

Same happens here.
Didn’t upgrade the workstations yet and the farm machines running on 3.1.
Workstations won’t render until modify/OK.

We have to install the new version to all I guess

Yeah, it is never recommended to run different versions of the Deadline applications on the same farm. While we always try to keep things backward compatible (especially within the same major version), there is never a guarantee that you won’t run into problems when using mixed versions.

Cheers,
