Is it possible to use ambient occlusion data with Krakatoa? Specifically I would like to use AO in the color channel but of course we cannot use MR occlusion or VRayDirt.

Hmm, certainly not as direct but you could fake it by using the AO maps as greyscale birth textures in a particle system.
It’s not terribly hard to do if you have Frost.
Do tell, I am intrigued
Actually, last week we did a lighting setup in Unity3D where the ambient occlusion was generated by Krakatoa. Yay software!

The KCM’s are simple, just doing mesh sampling.
