I’m using KRAKATOA V1.0 for a movie, rendering seperate passes of it.
The DOF focus doesn’t seem to work correctly on the matting objects of the scene.
The particles themself get the correct focus (according to the camera’s target), but objects that suppose to matt it don’t (meanning they are sharp where they should be blurred andi vice -versa).
Any reason why that would happen ?
Here is a repost of my answer on CGTalk:
This is a known but not well-documented limitation of the built-in DOF. Matte Objects are currently not supported when using the Krakatoa DOF because Krakatoa is jittering the particles and not the camera.
The work around for these shots is to use the Max Camera Multi-Pass DOF effect. The drawback is that it is rather slow because the particles will be reloaded for each pass. But since it changes the camera’s point of view for each pass, it will take into account Matte Objects.
Same applies to motion blur with deforming matte objects - the workaround is to use the Max Camera MPass effect instead. (This has already been fixed for the next Krakatoa version though - the built-in Motion Blur will work with deforming mattes in the next release).
REMEMBER to always turn OFF the DOF or MBlur effect in Krakatoa if using the Max MPass effect instead!
