From time to time (usually when I don’t shut down a computer properly) I get this message and can find no other way to resolve this problem then to restart the license server.
q1. Is there some way to see which computer occupied an amount of licenses ?
q2. can a (double) license used by a computer be forced to be released without restarting anything?
For some reason no error message made it through to us. There are a few options, though, which vary depending on the issue at hand. Can you try to resend the error as code? That will give us a better idea of what’s going on. To answer at least one of your questions outright, though, yes there is am lmutil command to show a list of which nodes are using a license, and that can be input into a spreadsheet to work out if some machines are using too many. Here(infocenter.arm.com/help/index.js … a4037.html) is more info on that command. Hope that helps.
At the moment only my workstation has direct internet connection, so that might be the cause for not receiving anything.
As for error code, where can I find this the next time? (now I just copied the message from the monitor)
It doesn’t happen too often (shall try to reproduce it as soon as the current renders are done) up till now 3 times I think since december.
Not a big thing, but found it weird and had to cancel renders to reset and missed if for a few hours so 1 slave wasn’t working
aaah ok, i misunderstood… I know that option.
just thought that you were talking about a separate support page where error codes have to be submitted to get handled.
all clear… will give a reply when it occurs again.
Today I had to manually restart (push power button till it’s off and turn it on again) a node as I couldn’t access it through teamviewer.
after the machine was restarted I again have a this code :
Licensed Number of users already reached
So I’ve checked the license stats in the LMutil via the command line where it shows that particular node (3DNODE6) already has a license.
When I check in the monitoring app it tells me it can’t get a license, here a combined screenshot of the situation:
I also opened the LMTOOLS and checked the “Server Status” tab which gives me the same information:
--------

In the end I stopped and started the license server again in the "start/stop/reread’ window of LMtools and rebooted the 3dnode6 again.
After this it picked up the license again and continued.
I’m pretty sure this issue is due to the a improper shutdown of the machine where it doesn’t return the license and the license keeps being registered as used.
In the end it’s a small effort to stop & start the license server again so it is manageable as I now think to know what the problem is and how it’s solved.
but figured to mention it here anyway in cause it is useful.
So the best way to avoid this issue in the future, before upgrading to 6.2 which has this fixed in the code, is to make use of something called the Options File in flexlm. More on that here: vcpc.univie.ac.at/informatio … /chap6.htm
Basically what this file does is that it sets a time that your license server will expect the slaves to check in to keep their license valid. If the slave doesn’t check in by then, the license is taken back and reassigned. This functionality is currently in the 6.2 beta, but pre 6.2 you would need to make this file. I hope that helps.
