Licensing - Server and Client

Just for your information, with Beta 1 the licensing system was using my 2nd Ethernet address (I asked for License files for both my MAC addresses).
As of Beta 2, (and after a restart) I had to use the license from the 1st Ethernet address.

This maybe unrelated to the Krakatoa licensing system but just wanted to let you know.

Mac Pro mid 2010, OS X 10.8.5

HI,

I had the problem ,too. After installing the latest Version on OSX . After giving a Link to the LIC-file C4D freezes. Bud than I opened the C4D console and learned there is a very clear ERROR Message, that I have the wrong MAC address to my LIC fiele ( there was one for LAN and one for Wi-FI in my iMAC) …so Radka made me a new LIC, with the other MAC Numbers and since than everything running fine. =)

Means, since latest build, it´s very easy to deal with that licensing stuff =) …great work guys.

best
kay

I think this is because Apple changed the order in which the network adapters are loaded in 10.8. Your primary network port (MAC address) is not the same as in 10.7. So if you’re upgrading from 10.7 or earlier after you got your license file, you will need a new one.

Cheers
Bonsak

my Ethernet “switch” happened with the same EXACT system version.
Just Beta 2 and a restart

I installed using the installer app (wizard) supplied.
I am running on Mac OSX 10.9.1
C4D R15.037 - RC81709

EDIT***

So based upon what I am reading here, should I resupply my system info for a new .LIC file?

You have a node locked license, so the steps you described should have worked. You don’t need to install the FlexLm server since you are not using a floating license. Just copy the .LIC file somewhere and point at that location. If it is crashing, send us ALL your MAC addresses and we can try each one to figure out what works.

Okay,
I had sent the full license_info.txt previously but I’ll resubmit and see where we get.

Thanks all!
I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.

Uff, just wanted to get started with it all (finally), but unfortunately ran into the same problem. After it asks for the license file and I specify a path (tried different ones), Cinema4D freezes and until I force quit.

Mac OSX 10.8.2

Just an update,
I still am running into the same problem. talked with Bobo and there are some solutions they are going to look into on their side.
Once I have a remedy I’ll be sure to post up my process and updates.

We should try and be patient on this front, remember the notion of beta means there will be a lot of kinks that need to be worked out.

Lets just be happy we are finally getting proper industry grade plugins coming into C4D finally.

we appreciate the pain this is causing - but our licensing has been tested against production use on millions of frames [this is good]
the down side, it is usually installed by people experienced with FlexLM - eg a pipeline or systems department who have used it on a myriad of other products.

So we have two issues - likely a bug [or bugs] on our side to fix with regards to licensing, and secondly [and more importantly] a learning curve when it comes to non-facility users. have some patience with us - our mission statement is ‘remarkable support’ and we mean it.

cheers

No complaints from this side, just keen to start stretching my horizons

No idea if this is related, but the vRay4C4D also used to crash if the render was interrupted in the preparation stages; they’ve fixed this with the current release so they might be able to shed some light on the problem.

Thank you for reporting the problems. I am working on a new build to address the “freezing up” problem.

Sorry again for all the licensing headaches, we are working hard to smooth out the whole licensing process. Hopefully it will be very simple so that it can be licensed without and hassle at all.

Is there any reason we cannot use lmadmin rather than lmgrd for the license server?

Reading on the flexera site it says that lmadmin has a GUI, I imagine this will make the license server config easier?

I’ve yet to configure the license server and will tackle this later today hopefully and I’ll report back here my experiences!

Thanks
Tim

To be honest we’ve never dabbled in it. I guess now is as good a time as any. Thanks for reminding me about it

Attempted to get the licence server running today.

Here’s a screenshot of the usr…flexnet directory.

and here is the output from Terminal.

I understand that the directory / file (/usr/local/flexlm/licenses/license.dat) doesn’t exist. Sorry if I’m a bit useless here but I’m not sure what to do to resolve this. I can create this directory, but where do I obtain the license.dat file?

Thanks
Tim

Hi
Try giving the full path to the license file as well:

Cheers
Bonsak

Thanks Bonsak.

Now I get the following error, so it is at least reading the licence file.

I changed it to MacPro-8Core.local in the .lic file and get the following message…

So i’m confused, it says not a valid server hostname and then says using license file…
Is it working now? I need to RTFM the next part which I presume is configuring the client?

Thanks

Hi
Is the ethernet address on the first line of the lic file the same as is shown in the “System preferences/Network/“your network adapter”/Advanced/Hardware”?

What is the name of your machine in “System preferences/Sharing” where it says: “Computers on your local network can access your computer at:”?

If its running you should see two processes in Activity monitor: “lmgrd” and “thinkbox” or just write this in the terminal:

/usr/local/Thinkbox/flexnet/lmutil lmstat -c /usr/local/Thinkbox/flexnet/Thinkbox_license_Luxx_Pty_Ltd.lic -f

-b

This error message is super confusing. It’s basically saying that “macpro-8core”, which is the current name of your machine is invalid, and that it should be “MacPro-8Core.local”.

It’s fairly common for Macs to not know how to talk to themselves though. Try using the super sneaky “this_host” as the host name. If that doesn’t work, see if the machine can ping itself by running the following from the Terminal:

ping hostname

If it can’t, you’ll need to add the host name to /etc/hosts. It looks a bit complicated, but just open that file in a text editor, and add “127.0.0.1 MacPro-8Core.local”.

Thanks for your help with this and apologies that you’re having to hold my hand through this process. Tried to ping the host name and failed, so added to etc/host. Ping then worked.

Now when I try, I get the error that Vendor daemon can’t talk to lmgrd. Here’s the output in Terminal

It attempts to communicate several times and then errors…

Thanks for any advice.
