Linux output to wrong location

I have a linux slave that is completing a frame but its output is not to the same location as all the other slaves (linux windows mix).
the output goes to /home/farm/maya/projects/default/…
Is there an option to change this or did i set it up wrong?

Update:
This only happens to some jobs. I asked the artist that submitted it and he said that he did nothing differently when i compared a job had placed the *.iff file to the local linux machine to a job where it put it in the proper directory. I hope that helps a bit.

If you could post 2 full render logs for the same job, that would be great:

  1. A log from a task where the output was saved correctly
  2. A log from a task where the output was sent to the wrong location

Note these are the logs from different machines. The jobs are not the same either. Both are running ubuntu 8.04.1 server. I am thinking that i should just rebuild the machine since i am not getting those errors anywhere else.

I just found out that all the linux machines are now doing this. They are not sending the finished *.iff files to the NAS specified. The windows deadline does this fine. Another strange problem with this is that the texture are giving warnings. What i notice is deadline is trying to point to my NAS by //NAS/folder rather than smb://NAS/folder since linux cannot access folders the same as windows. Is there a line i need to enter into the Deadline Monitor?

Maya links the textures to a source folder that is on the NAS which is within the project folder where the job is getting submitted from. In less words, I think that deadline is not passing the textures the appropriate way… it needs to somehow convert //NAS/project_folder/sourceimages to /home/farm/NAS/project_folder/sourceimages.

In 3.1, there will be an option to map paths for different OS’s for Maya, but that only affects the project and output paths. Everything else should be relative to those paths, as Deadline won’t be going through the scene file or all the files in the project folder to make sure they’re all pointing to where they should be.

The paths are correct I tested them. Windows takes the files properly since they are in the same folder as the project and scene files are. Is there something i can do to work around this or just wait for 3.1 to come out…? When is its approximate release date or can i beta test?

But mainly maya loads a texture from a \NAS\project_folder\sourceimages. It is the same way on all the other projects too

I have been searching around for a reason for this problem. What i have come up with is this theory… The texture is getting loaded as this “sourceimages\texture.jpg” in maya
I dont know if it is maya or deadline that adds the header “\NAS\folder\project_folder” to the texture. for some reason i noticed the combined link like this:
“\NAS\folder\project_folder\sourceimages\texture.jpg” Notice the double slash. Why it is there I have no idea but,
Deadline auto converts the slashes for linux from \ to // and \ to / so that makes the link:
“//NAS/folder/project_folder//sourceimages/texture.jpg/”

This would cause an error because of linux being strict on its links. Windows is not.

I hope that might help a bit. As i am running low on ideas.

Hmm, I don’t think that Deadline is appending the extra ‘/’, because when we pass the project and output folders via the command line, we explicitly remove any trailing slashes from the paths. See the command parameteres -rd and -proj in the log:

Since Deadline is just rendering with Maya’s command line renderer, I would imagine that it’s Maya that is adding the header "\NAS\folder\project_folder" to the texture. Probably the best way to determine this is to render from a terminal on the linux box using Maya’s command line renderer and see if you have the same problem.

I checked the beta forum permissions, and you should already have access to the 3.1 beta forum and downloads. Note that the path mapping feature will be available in the beta 4 release, which we hope to get out next week.

I fixed the error for the textures not loading and not sending the output to the proper folder. I had to mount my NAS at the root of the drive.

mount point in windows: \NAS\folder\project_folder\file.mb
textures are located in: \NAS \folder\project_folder\textures\cover.jpg

When mounting the folders like this they are not working:
/home/user/NAS/folder/project_folder/

This works:
/NAS/folder/ <- mount point because cifs does not like DFS mounting. You need to include the first folder of the NAS.

How to:
sudo mkdir -p -m777 /NAS/folder //makes both folders and give full permissions.
mount.cifs \\NAS\folder /NAS/folder/ -o user=USERNAME%PASSWORD dom=DOMAIN
