Linux: tasks have completed but are not marked as such

Hi,

we have a few Houdini IFD rendering tasks where slaves keep on “rendering” infinitely (usually a task is completed in seconds). The busy slaves, however, aren’t really rendering those tasks anymore. They are already busy with other tasks and jobs which they complete successfully. Eventually I need to requeue those tasks or, if that slave has hanging tasks across multiple jobs, I need to restart the slave. Sometimes there are task reports for those endlessly rendering tasks, sometimes there aren’t. If there is one, it looks as if the task has been completed successfully.

What could cause this?

(Deadline version is 7.0.2.3)

Hello,

I think we would need to see a slave log from a machine this is happening on so we can see what, if anything, is being reported when it’s in that state. You can find the log file from the help menu, then explore log folder on the slave itself.

Sorry for not getting back on this. I think we’ve figured it out…

we were running out of licenses.

We had used a workstation to occasionally render Houdini IFD files. If the number of regular render slaves had already maxed out our Deadline licenses that extra workstation took a license from the slaves… apparently that sometimes caused problems when a slave was deprived of its license before it had finished his tasks properly. Those slaves were usually processing two concurrent tasks so maybe Deadline thought it was ok to reassign a license when the first task had finished but then the slave could no longer report success on its second task? There were license errors in the slave log.
