Mac OS Client Apps will not open

I am interested in trying out Deadline. I downloaded the latest trial release (5.1.47014 (April 17, 2012)).

However, I am unable to open any of the apps in the client package. I see the icon bounce on a dock for a moment and then it disappears. The output from the console is below. I would really appreciate some help with this. Deadline looks like a great piece of software, but I am running out of time to decide on the render manager for our studio. If I can’t get this solved this week I will have to use something else.

Thanks!
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Which version of Mono do you have installed? Deadline 5.x works best on OSX with Mono 2.6.7 (the x86 version):
download.mono-project.com/archiv … /download/

Typically, this error occurs when Mono 2.10.x is installed. If you have a version newer than 2.6.7 installed, you should first uninstall it before installing 2.6.7:
mono-project.com/Mono:OSX#Un … n_Mac_OS_X

Also, I noticed the error message is for Deadline 5.0:

I’m only mentioning this because you said you installed the latest 5.1. release. Is it possible you have an older version of Deadline on your machine? It’s not the reason the error would occur, but we definitely want you testing 5.1 instead of 5.0 because we have continued to improve the OSX experience in 5.1.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

I will try this. Quick question – uninstalling Deadline is as simple as throwing the Deadline folder into the trash, correct? Going to reinstall in case I got the wrong version before.

There is the /Applications/Deadline folder and the ~/Deadline folder (where ~ is your home folder). You can safely trash both of them to uninstall Deadline.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

Thank you, got it working. I think I was indeed using 5.0 – had tried 5.1, didnt work so I tried 5.0.

But downgrading Mono fixed the problem. Thanks!

Some unrelated cosmetic questions about the Monitor app:

Is there any way to improve the appearance of fonts on the menus? They look kinda badly rendered right now, like scaled down badly or something, and the serifs cut off and whatnot.

Is there any way to remove applications from the ‘submit’ menu that are irrelevant to our studio? It would be nice if we could just se AE, Cinema4D, and 3DS Max.

Thank you!

We will be addressing pretty much all of the OSX display issues in Deadline 6, so I would expect font rendering to fall under that umbrella of things that will get fixed.

Yes. You can configure what’s visible in the Repository Options:

Great. Thanks!
