Max2011, changing exr output color depth possible?

Hi,

is it possible to change the exr color depth of some render element outputs from 16bit float to 32bit float via scripting on an existing render job?

Cheers, Marcus

Hello Marcus,

If you know how to do this via melscript, we could definitely help get this coded for you. Could you send over that command? Thanks.

Cheers,

I don’t have a Maxscript solution either.

Unfortunately, there currently isn’t enough logic in the [3dsmax.options] file to support bitmap settings post submission into the queue. ie: There is no functionality to distinguish using the “3dsmax.options” file whether each 3dsMax submitted Render Element is an EXR or a.n.other image file type, thereby allowing sub-settings such as bit depth setting to be changed post submission via the monitor. This should be added to the wish list though as it would be really useful!

(On a related note, there is a nasty ‘old’ bug which if we were to try changing the image file-type (file-extension) of a particular Render Element post submission, it will randomly not work. This has been logged as a defect to Autodesk in the current Max2015 beta cycle…)
