MayaBatch Output File Path Change and Monitor Task Window

Hi

I’ve just starting to enjoy Deadline’s features, and testing the extensive options available.

I submitted a MayaBatch job using the plugin - all worked beautifully.

I then using Modify Job Properties change the output folder; under MayaBatch Tab -> Output FIle Path. This type of change is a common requirement for us.

The Job rendered to the modified output folder as hoped - fantastic!

However, testing the functionality of the Task Window in Monitor … the Right Click -> Explore Output option looks like it is pointing to the original folder (not the modified one). The View Output option also cannot find the frame as it is also pointing to the original folder too.

Is this a bug?

Kind regards
Jim

3dsMax [change output file path] suffers from this issue as well.
Additionally, the render element output paths would not be updated as well, if they are tied to the same location as the main file output path.

This is more of a limitation than a bug.

The output path(s) are specified at submission, and stored with the general job properties. The MayaBatch tab settings (and 3dsmax tab settings) are stored in a completely separate file, which means that changing the settings in one has no impact on the other (and vice versa). That’s why when you change the MayaBatch settings, the general job’s settings (in this case, the output paths) are not updated.

We are fully aware of this limitation, but as Mike pointed out, sometimes it’s not as simple as just changing the one output path. For example, you could change the MayaBatch output prefix and use tags to identify camera, layer, etc. However, Deadline is not aware of how these tags are translated, so there would be no way for Deadline to set the output file name properly. It’s different on submission, because we can use the application’s native scripting language (melscript, maxscript, etc) to pull these settings from the scene prior to submission.

Cheers,
