Mental Ray Rendering Issue

Hi All,

I’m trying to get Deadline set up on our render farm and I’m kind of at wit’s end.

I start a mental ray standalone render with a single .mi file and the render nodes just cycle between rendering –queued- rendering-queuing states until finally they just revert to a queued state and only one of the nodes finishes rendering a frame.

Here are the specifics:

Using Deadline 3.1

Mental Ray Standalone 3.7.53 (32 bit) on windows XP (64 bit) render nodes. We have 11 licenses of Mental Ray and I’ve set up a limit group to ensure the nodes only use that number.

I’m exporting a single .mi file from Maya 2010.

I get the same error message, that the nodes can’t connect to a specific render node. I’ve attached a screenshot. I’ve blacklisted the problem render node, turned off the slave on that machine, deleted the node from the slave list, typed in the error codes to ignore in the mental ray plug-in config box but the Deadline slaves still come back with the error that they can’t find a specific machine.

I also updated some of the repository plugins for Maya cmds and submissions based on another forum post, though I think that’s a seperate issue.

Can I get some help on this issue?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Deadline is just the messenger in this case, so this may a configuration issue with Mental Ray. You said that only one of your nodes finishes a frame, so is it possible that your other machines are configured differently? Also, do you know why MR would be trying to connect to that machine? Is this an entry in the .rayrc file (or whatever it’s called) that can be removed?

Thanks Ryan. I went over all the render slaves and rechecked their settings. It seems fine now.

Glad to hear it’s working now!
