Migrating to Deadline 7

I was wondering if migration from Deadline 6 to version 7 was impossible like it is from 5 to 6 or is the repository will be compatible ?

Hello,

First, I wanted to let you know that questions about Deadline 7 are best left to the beta forums if you are part of the beta, but we understand that some non beta users might be wondering in the lead up to 7.

For your question, I wanted to let you know that we do have a migration tool, but it is primarily for configuration stuff, so there are a few things that won’t make the migrate:

Jobs
Reports
passwords
users

Otherwise your configuration should be migrated across using the import settings option of the Tools menu. Hope this helps.

Thanks for reply, i’ve got my response.
I wish we could migrate jobs, because it’s the main data during production. I can remake configurations stuff easily.
Nevermind, i hope v7 will be release before Christmas so we can begin production under that version.

Hello,

So I did some testing of the archive feature, and was successful in my tests. I can confirm the jobs can by migrated using the tool we have in 7, however you can do a full archive of the jobs on your Deadline 6 farm, then import them all to your Deadline 7 farm, which should make it possible to migrate them across. This would only leave your users and passwords that can’t be taken over from one to the other. I hope this helps.

Update: I am told that the process of exporting jobs from 6 and importing to 7 can be a hit or miss prospect, and can be highly unreliable, but it does seem at least to some degree possible in some cases.
