mongo connection error

It sounds like your mac can’t connect to your node01-pc machine using its host name. Can you open a Terminal on your mac (Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and try to ping it?

ping node01-pc

If that fails to connect, then we’ve confirmed you can’t connect via host name. It could be a DNS issue, in which case you can try renewing your DHCP Lease. Open System Preferences -> Network, click Advanced Button, then under TCP/IP tab, click Renew DHCP Lease.

If that doesn’t work, you could just add node01-pc to your mac’s HOSTS file:
mactip.net/how-to-edit-the-h … -on-a-mac/

If you do go this route, make sure to backup your original hosts file, just in case. You would just add a line that maps the IP address of node01-pc to its host name.

Another option would be to go to \your\repository\settings, open dbConnect.xml in a text editor, and replace the node01-pc host name with the machine’s IP address. Again, make a backup first, just in case.

Hope this helps!

hi Ryan, thanks it works! i just added the ip address to the host file

another question… am trying to start the mac slave from pc monitor, but it says the requested address is not valid in its context 255.255.255.255:17060 the status is failed for the forcestopslave…
thanks!

Sounds like you’re having the reverse problem too. The pc is unable to reach the mac machine via its host name. The last thing you probably want to do is add a hosts entry on each pc for every mac you want to communicate with remotely, so you’ll need to figure out why DNS isn’t working for you mac.

It might just be a matter of configuring your DNS settings on your Mac:
macs.about.com/od/networking/qt/ … cs-dns.htm

Cheers,

HI, actually checked already the DNS in both systems PC and Mac, and everything looks just fine… i added the mac computer in the host file from the windows system and nothing, keep giving the same error…

Can you ping the Mac from the PC using the Mac’s host name? Just open a command prompt from Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt, and run the ping command like you did earlier.

yes it pings correctly…

Hmm…

In the Monitor, there is a Machine Name column. Is the name for the Mac machine there the same one you’re using in your ping test? If it is, I’m a bit stumped…

actually, yes it appears in the monitor…

Can you send us the error message you get when you try to send a remote command to the Mac machine?

Also, can you confirm if the Deadline Launcher is running on your Mac machine?

Finally, can you check if Remote Administration is enabled in the Client Setup section of your Repository Options? You can open the Repository Options from the Tools menu in the Monitor while in super user mode.

I got a bit hung up on the pinging, but since you’ve added the Mac to the HOSTS file on your PC, maybe it’s something else now.

zeah seems like its something else, because in this mac is running the license manager too, and i dont know why it disconnects from the pc, and i cannot see it, i think this is the base problem…am getting crazy with this… everytime i mount the respositories it says there was aproblem connecting to the server xxx check the server name or ip address, and then try again. if you continue to have probelms, contact your system administrator., and it doesnt give me a chance to put a password or login somehow… very frustrating… :smiling_imp:
