Network Deployment

Hey Guys,

Been a while – trying to get it up and running here on multiple machines. Usually what we do is just run an install for a plugin on a dummy computer and then just copy over all the files to each machine and all works well for most plugins. Krakatoa on the other hand doesn’t like this very much… and gives us plugin errors on load. Is there an easier way than the installer to install this on multiple machines?

This is strange, we copy Krakatoa to our network all the time. All that is needed is to point the plugin.ini file of Max to the correct sub-folder containing the correct version of the DLR, for example in the case of Max 9 32bit that would be something like

C:\Program Files\Frantic Films\Krakatoa\3dsMax9\Win32

All the other folders should remain in the same structure wherever you copied them. Krakatoa loads the DLR, goes two folders up (for example to C:\Program Files\Frantic Films\Krakatoa) and assumes that as the KrakatoaHome. Then it loads all scripts and so on from the sub-folders based off the home folder.

Of course, we are running floating network licenses and we have set up our machines with the right licensing. Normally, you should not be able to run Krakatoa without a network license - did you get one from us?

Krakatoa 1.0 will run in evaluation mode with NO network support and a watermark. Network licenses will be bundled with the Krakatoa license, more details coming soon.

What exactly is the plugin error you are getting? What version of Max is this? Do you have network licenses or are you running a stand-alone license (that’s what we provide to Beta testers by default unless requested differently)

We got a network license here at Blur… On max 9, and It says plugin not configured correctly for a few differnt files I think.

I’ll try it again on another machine and see if maybe there was something overlooked.

Thanks!

Edit: Looked again and the folders all look fine. I still have to test it on somebody else’s machine, but it might take a while before I can do that.
