I just started working with Krakatoa, mainly because i use Real Flow a lot and would like to extend the possibilities by integrating it with Krakatoa.
I found this Krakatoa/Real Flow tutorial on You tube which seems easy to understand. youtube.com/watch?v=thoB837Rwj4
Unfortunately I’m having a severe problem with importing the Real Flow .bin files. I did as according to the tutorial which is importing the bin files through the PRT Loader. When i try to do this i always get the following message(example)“C:\Users\xxx\xxx\xxx\meshes\circle1_0001.bin” had a quote inside a non-quoted column data entry." and i can’t load the bin mesh with PRT Loader. I use Krakatoa 2.0.1 by also tried demo versions of earlier versions with 3Ds Max 2010, 2011 and 2012, also tried with Real Flow 5 and 2012(with different RF/max import packs) in various combinations but only get this error message.
If i import it as particles(.pa) it works flawless but not as .bin file.
Can someone please explain if i missed something important that causes this problem.
Another thing i would like to know, is how i can export the Krakatoa render animation files with an alpha channel? I’ve made some tests with 3D’s Particle Flow but when i import the animation sequence(tried .PNG, .Tiff, .Targa) in to AE i can’t use the alpha channel.
I would be very grateful if some are able to help me.
There are two folders with BIN files in ReaFlow - Mesh Bin files, and Particle Bin files. Not sure why Next Limit thought naming two different formats with the same extension was a great idea, but anyway, you will notice that the files you picked are in the \meshes\ sub-folder and not in the \particles\ sub-folder of the project…
I assumed it had something to do with the alpha settings in AE but couldn’t figure it out so that guidance helped a lot.
Regarding the .bin file; i still can’t open them from the ‘mesh’ folder but from the ‘particle’ folder it works great, but i suppose these are the same kind of particles.
Nope, the mesh folder does NOT contain particles, it contains, not surprisingly, meshes. (the result of RealFlow meshing, similar to what our Frost does). It is just that Next Limit decided to store both particles and meshes in files with the same extension (imagine if MS Word files and OpenEXR files were both stored in a .DOC format, what a mess would that be )
So you should NEVER pick BIN files from the mesh folder. Those are not particle files!
