Node Status "New"

We’ve been using Deadline for quite some time, and this is definitely something “new”…
We’ve had some network issues, unrelated to Deadline, but directly affecting it. A bunch of node would randomly stall or go offline (due to packet loss), and sometimes when I would start them back up their status in the Manager windows would say “New”. Now, these all have been on the Slaves for a long time and I’ve never, not even when they actually were new, seen this before.

I wouldn’t mind so much if they would quickly change their status over to “Rendering” when a job is submitted, but they usually don’t. I have to restart the slave before it starts doing it’s job again. Maybe it’s just due to our ongoing network issues, but I was just putting this out there to see if anyone else has had the same problem, or if anyone knows of a way around it?

Thanks,

-Adam

The “New” status is only shown if the Monitor can’t find the slave’s [slavename].info file, which should reside in \your\repository\slaves[slavename]. Normally, this is the case when a slave is launched for the very first time. If network issues are preventing the Monitor from seeing these files, that would explain the problem.

Note that the Monitor showing a status of “New” doesn’t actually affect the slave if it is running on the remote machine. It’s just a way for the monitor to say “I can’t find the slave info file”.

Interesting. Thanks for the input. I figured it was just network related. Now I know.
